Hans Moland was born in Norway and studied filmmaking in the United States. He began his career with GIRALDI, the New York production company owned by legendary commercial director Bob Giraldi. Having honed his technique, Hans returned to Norway and opened the Moland Film Company. Within a few years, it became one of the most successful film companies in Scandinavia.

Hans initially made his mark in commercials, directing work for many top international brands and earning awards at all the major festivals in Europe and the United States including Cannes, EuroBest and Clio. In 1993, he made his debut as a feature film director with The Last Lieutenant. He followed that with Zero Kelvin, Aberdeen, The Beautiful Country and A Somewhat Gentle Man, a nominee for a Golden Bear and won the audience award at the 2010 Berlin International Film Festival. His most recent film, When Bubbles Burst, is a documentary on the financial collapse in Europe and the US.
